Sometimes described as periodicals or magazines, journals are published regularly (monthly, quarterly or annually) and are a useful source for the latest published information and research findings in a subject area. The Library subscribes to journals in both electronic and print format.
A journal reference provides all the information required to locate a specific journal article in a database or to order it through Document Delivery.
This is a typical journal reference:
Millar, S. (1996) 'Education: Museums and their Visitors', Museum Management and Curatorship,15 (2), pp.212 - 214.
The article entitled 'Education: Museums and their Visitors' is by S. Millar, published in volume 15, issue 2 of the journal Museum Management and Curatorship, beginning on page 212.
If you have a reference to a journal article, you must first check if the library has the journal in stock. Search for the journal by its title (e.g. Museum Mnagement and Curatorship) on the Electronic Journals Database. If we take the journal. a link will be provided to the database which contains it. You will then need to navigate to the relevant publication year, volume and issue.
If we do not have the journal electronically, we may have it in print form (available only to those who have access to the campus library), or the article can be ordered through Document Delivery.

If you need to find information on a topic, e.g. for an assignment, always use a subject database, such as one of those listed on the Library Databases tab above.
