Literature Reviews: Where to search

Where should I look to find information?

Databases

To make sure that your literature review is up to date, you will need to use academic journal articles. The quickest and easiest way to search for articles is to use a journal database.

Databases are collections of thousands of journals providing access to millions of articles. Some databases are subject specific and some are multidisciplinary covering many subject areas. You will usually need to use a combination of both.

Visit our library subject guides for the key databases in your specific subject area.

Multidisciplinary Databases

The main multidisciplinary databases are Scopus and Web of Science.

Scopus
Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database covering top-level subject fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts and humanities.

Web of Science
Web of Science provides access to the world's leading citation databases. Subject coverage includes: Science and Technology, Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences.

USearch

USearch is the Ulster University's own multidisciplinary database which covers the bulk of the library's full text subscriptions. It enables you to search the majority of the library databases and electronic journals simultaneously. It can generate large amounts of material and is useful for conducting scoping searches.
