Responsible Use of Metrics

undefined

Ulster University signed the San Francisco Declaration Of Research Assessment (DORA) in 2020. This means that the University is committed to the principles of fair, responsible and open use of metrics in the assessment of research activity and performance.

To read more about our commitment, see the Department of Research and Impact's Responsible Research Metrics page.

SciVal

Subject librarians have access to SciVal, a powerful tool that analyses the data in Scopus to produce reports on research performance. We have access to three modules:

  • Overview - Get an overview of the research performance of your institution and others based on output, impact, and collaborations.
  • Benchmarking – Determine your strengths and weaknesses. Compare your research institution and teams to others based on performance metrics. Model different test scenarios.
  • Collaboration – Identify and analyze existing and potential collaboration opportunities. Identify suitable collaboration partners. See who others are collaborating with.

If you would like more information about SciVal, please contact us.

Inspec Analytics

Inspec and Inspec Analytics from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), are highly specialised discovery and research intelligence tools that provide detailed insights into research trends and patterns across physics and engineering disciplines at both local and global levels.

The granularity of the Inspec index makes it easy to analyse research output by organisation and/or specific subjects, allowing you to monitor research output over time, compare output between organisations, stay up to date with emerging trends, find collaboration opportunities and identify the most relevant  journals and conferences to publish work. Inspec Analytics is accessible via Inspec then click on the 'Explore Inspec Analytics' link.
