E-books video

E-books video transcript

In this short video, I would like to show you how to access eBooks from the library catalogue.

Begin your search on the library homepage at Ulster.ac.uk/library and  go to the Quick Links menu. Access the Library Catalogue. When you go into the library catalogue, you will be presented by a single search box. You can search for e-books using the title of the book, the author's name, keywords or subject areas.

I'm going to look for eBooks on critical thinking. You can see that I have a number of results, and if I wish, I can filter to print books on the relevant campus. But for now, I'm going to click on the e-book collection on the left hand side of the page, just to look at those books that are available in electronic format.
I can also sort the books to the newest first to get the most up to date information to the top of my results list.
To access an e-book, click on the title of the book and under the detailed record you will see some information about the loan types of our ebooks.
This particular book is available as a single user copy, but we have three separate copies of it, meaning the three people can access it at any one time.
To read the book, simply click on the link in the middle of the screen that says Click here to read this eBook. At this stage, you might have to log in through your Open Athens authentication.
At the landing page for the e-book. You can either read the book online or download a PDF of the chapter. That means that you can read the chapter without the use of wi fi. For now, I'm just going to read online.
And when you go into the book, you can see that you're presented with a scanned copy of the original print book.
If you've any problems accessing or using e-books, please contact library help or your subject librarian.
