Other Recommended databases

Below are the databases which are particularly useful for those seeking statistical information. Also listed are the main Social Science journal databases. Some journal articles will contain specific statistical information  as part of  the article, so it can be worth checking these non-statistical databases  in addition to more obviously 'statistics-based' resources.

UK Data Service

The UK Data Service provides a single point of access to a wide range of secondary data including large-scale government surveys, international macrodata, business microdata, qualitative studies  and census data from 1971 to 2011.

Data sets include:
Social Attitudes; British Household; British Crime; Family Expenditure; General Lifestyle, a range of European surveys and many others, including those relating to Northern Ireland. See 'Get Data' section for a full list.

Search Operators and Shortcuts for Databases

You need to be able to create a successful search strategy using the range of boolean connectors, truncation and wildcard operators employed by the various databases to which the Library subscribes.

Below is a table of the operators used by the most heavily used databases. Always check the 'Help' section of any database to ensure you are using the appropriate search functions.
