Dictionaries and encyclopaedia are a great place to start if you are new to a topic. They can explain legal definitions or provide overviews of a legal subject along with the relevant legislative authority and case references. Here are some of the best for Law.
Westlaw's Index of Legal Terms contains three dictionaries: Osborn's Concise Law Dictionary, Jowitt's Dictionary of English Law and Stroud's Judicial Dictionary of Words and Phrases. See the video below on how to use it. Note: This video shows the older platform but the general information is still accurate.
You may need information from parliamentary / other official sources.
For help, see the European and Government Publications guide. There is also a separate guide for Statistics.
