The Spalding Collection comprises 400 volumes concerned with Eastern and Middle Eastern culture, religion, art and history.
The books were purchased as a result of a donation of money from Henry Norman Spalding and Mrs Nellie Spalding, for the purpose of building a collection of material on Asia. Henry Norman Spalding (1877-1953) and his wife were responsible for donations to aid studies in Eastern culture at various Oxford Colleges as well as the donation to the then Magee College. The titles in the Collection were purchased individually and did not originate from an already established collection.
The majority of the titles are 20th century imprints and can be found via the Library catalogue. They are also are listed in a separate sheaf catalogue. For queries, contact the Special Collections team.
