The Library purchased a large collection of books and some manuscript material covering the history of World War II from Mr Paul Ricard of London in 1973. This purchase was seen as a supplement to the Headlam-Morley collection which covers the political and diplomatic history of World War I. Mr Ricard visited the New University of Ulster in May 1974 and provided interesting bibliographical information about the collection and conducted a number of seminars for students.
The books are shelved among the main collection in the Reading rooms and Ricard's notebooks of MSS records and newspaper cuttings are available for consultation on request. A broad list of the contents of the notebooks is available below.
Mr Ricard was a librarian with French family connections and this collection of material, mainly from 1938 to 1945, was gathered during his personal historical research.
The Ricard Collection is not open for general use. All requests to consult the collection should be made to the Special Collections team by email.
