Books with more than two authors

For books with more than two authors all names must be included and in the order they appear on the material. Note the use of and the comma to separate authors in the examples below.

 

The required elements for the reference are:

Author Surname, INITIALS., Author Surname, INITIAL(S). and Author Surname, INITIAL(S). (Year) Title of book. Edition (if not the first). Place of publication: Publisher.

Reference List

Example of the full reference at the end of your assignment - 1st edition:

Boore, J., Cook, N. and Shepherd, A . (2017) The nurse's anatomy and physiology colouring book. London: Sage. 

In-text citation 

Example 1 - where the author's name occurs naturally in the sentence

Boore et al. (2017) found that..... 

 

Reference List

Example of the full reference at the end of your assignment - 2nd or subsequent edition

Keltner, N.L., Bostrom, C.E. and McGuinness, T.M. (2011) Psychiatric nursing. 6th ed. St. Louis, Mo.: Elsevier Mosby.

In-text citation

Example 1 - where the author's name does not occur naturally in the sentence

Recent research (Keltner et al. 2011) ...

Other points to note

Points to note: 

  • et al. is an abbreviation that we use in text for 3 or more authors.
  • In text we use the surname of the lead author and et al. to indicate the rest,  with the year of publication.
  • the et al. must be italicised with a full stop.
  • In the full reference we must list all authors names.
