The required elements for the reference are:

Surname of person interviewed, INITIALS. (Year) Title of publication or broadcast. In: Publisher [Type of publication] date, month and time of interview. 

Reference List

Example of the full reference at the end of your assignment:

Popp, A. (2017) Report: Women’s deaths from drug misuse up 95 percent in a decade. In: Channel 4 News. [TV programme] Channel 4. 30 September, 19:00.

In-text citation 

Example 1 - where the author's name occurs naturally in the sentence

Popp (2017) said that ...

Example 2 - where the author's name does not occur naturally in the sentence

... (Popp 2017)

Other points to note

Points to note: 

  • Contributions

    Individual items within a broadcast (such as interviews) should be cited as contributors.

  • Person-to-person communications do not provide recoverable data and so are not included in the reference list. You should therefore:

    • Cite personal communications in the text only.

    • Give initials as well as the surname of the communicator and provide as exact a date as possible. It is advisable to include copies or summaries of these in Appendices.
